Hey Mary Ann! Have to tell you about our experiment with the worm castings you gave us!
We used them on golden beets. I left them out of one flat and used them in the others. At first, when they sprouted, there was no difference and they were all the same for a week or two (that was about the time we saw you at the ASAP conference).
THEN…long story short, the beets with worm castings in the potting mix were more than double the size of the beets without-and gorgeous. I should have taken pictures and I’m sorry I didn’t. They are in the ground now, happy and healthy!
Thank you!!

I am a huge fan of Mary Ann and what she’s doing to promote vermicomposting in the Asheville community! She is a wonderful source of composting worms and is highly knowledgable about the microbiology, the nutrients, the pest and pathogen suppressing capabilities, and the tilth that worm castings and vermicompost can add back into your soil. She’s nearby in Waynesville, so she’s an incfredible asset to the Asheville area organic growing community! Highly recommended!

Awesome worms! I got a pound of red wigglers from Mary Ann and Don a week ago, and I am loving the work that these worms are doing! I’ve thrown in about a pound of food this past week (half on the first day, then half on the second day). Went digging around the bin yesterday (day 7 of adding food), and found only couple pieces of carrots and green onions left. And I check the bin about twice a day- lots of active worms every time I check. They were so nice and met me in West Asheville so I didn’t have to drive out to Waynesville. The bag of worms came with a decent amount of their original bedding, which I think really helped with the transition into their new home. They were also helpful when I emailed them later, asking about how to make worm tea 🙂 Highly recommend to any WNC locals looking into vermicomposting!
